忠孝復興/敦化地區,美食實在多得要命! 這個地區充滿了超好吃的手工冰淇淋店,比如 Crème白鬍子OVOV,還有其他的尚未發現的。這個考試中心的地段流量高,租金相對的一樣高,所以公司要頑強才存活得下去。在這個變動很快的地段,許多小店和餐廳開了沒有多久就消失不見了,哪怕本來蠻受歡迎的。但能見度高的、落在觀光熱點敦化南路的Cosi O Cosi義大利冰淇淋,算是本地區開最久的獨立冰淇淋專賣店。他們開了這麼久應該表示本店具有某種優勢—-特別是因為它最附近的競爭對手就是旁邊一家很大的、很吸引人的Haagen Dazs!

The Zhongxiao Fuxing/Dunhua neighbourhood is going to be the death of me. This area is full of great ice cream shops, including Crème, Milk Beard, and OVOV, as well as others I’ve yet to discover. This prime urban area has high traffic and equally high rent, so small businesses have to be tough to survive. Turnover is high, and many small shops and eateries vanish only a year or two after opening, even if they’re popular. But with an easy-to-find location right on the Dunhua green mile – and some delicious gelato – Gelateria Cosi O Cosi is one of the longest-running independent ice cream shops in the area. That means something – especially since the nearest competition is a big, shiny Haagen Dazs just half a block away!

Cosi O Cosi提供的冰淇淋品種有傳統義大利口味(「Stracciatella」瑞士巧克力、開心果、巧克力、香草)還有當地熱門口味,比如抹茶、黑芝麻以及幾種時令水果口味。我本來很希望能夠讚美本店的地道風格,但我發現了他們多半的冰品是用進口的、工廠做的人工冰淇淋原料,品牌叫PreGel,你可以看到PreGel的Logo寫著在冰淇淋標示牌上。它倒是一個很有名的,很受歡迎的名牌……但它還是工廠做的而不是手工的,這還代表它做出來的冰淇淋是以工廠為標準的而不是獨家特色的,還代表冰品的原料沒有手工冰淇淋店的那麼新鮮健康,像小涼院蜜朵麗那種只用鮮奶、水果、堅果、糖等等真材實料的店。老闆說Cosi O Cosi 的水果口味冰淇淋主要的是當地水果做的(除了櫻桃和綜合野莓以外)。所以呢,如果你想要吃到Cosi O Cosi 最新鮮的冰淇淋,一定要選芒果、百香果、芭樂之類的台灣時令水果口味!

Cosi O Cosi serves a combination of traditional Italian flavours (stracchiatella, pistachio, chocolate, vanilla) and local favourites like matcha, black sesame, as well as a selection of seasonal fruit flavours. I really wanted to give this place a big thumbs up for authenticity, but it seems most of the gelatos here are made with imported gelato mix made in a factory. The brand is called PreGel – you can see the logo on the ice cream labels. It’s a very popular and well-reputed brand…but it still comes from a factory, and it means the gelato is factory-standard instead of unique. It also means the ingredients are less natural and healthy than places like Jung Yard Softee and Midori that simply use fruit, nuts, cream and sugar. I spoke with the owner and he said the fruit flavours are mostly made with local fruits (with the exception of things like amarena/cherry and wildberry, which are not available locally). So if you want to get the freshest gelato that Cosi O Cosi has to offer, go for things like mango, passionfruit and guava!

「Leoleon」(根據PreGel網站、是一種像焦糖或奶糖的口味)、櫻桃優格、抹茶(日本進口綠茶粉做的)、「Stracciatella」(瑞士巧克力)、榛果及香草口味。

“Leoleon” (apparently a caramel or dolce de leche sort of flavour, according to the PreGel website), cherry frozen yogurt, matcha (made with Japanese green tea powder), stracciatella, hazelnut, and vanilla.

And the prize goes to…Guava! Cosi O Cosi’s guava gelato is rich and creamy and bursting with the complex fruity-musky flavour of fresh Taiwanese guavas. According to the owner, this is Cosi O Cosi’s top seller.

閃閃發光的巧克力冰淇淋看起來超級好吃,我禁不起誘惑要了試吃。看它的顏色這麼黑,我以為它應該是一個味道很重,有點苦苦的黑巧克力口味,但它居然一點也不苦,反而很甜,對愛吃苦苦黑巧克力的我算是有一點太甜,沒有我在小南爵Crème吃過的巧克力冰淇淋的那麼濃郁。我猜應該是因為它是用供應商的巧克力醬做的,而不是用新鮮巧克力做的。

The chocolate ice cream looked so rich and lush that I couldn’t resist a sample. With such a dark colour, I assumed it would be a bittersweet dark chocolate, but it’s not bitter at all – actually, I found it a little too sweet, and the chocolate flavour was flat, lacking the depth and character of chocolate ice creams I’ve tried at Le Petit Baron and Crème. I guess that’s because it’s made from industrial chocolate syrup instead of  fresh chocolate.

芒果冰淇淋,$100NT。吃Cosi O Cosi鮮甜可口的芒果冰淇淋慶祝一下芒果季節的開始嘍!很清爽、綿密、甜度適中,不會膩口,剛好讓你吃得到新鮮時令芒果的天然好味道。你真的可以吃出來新鮮芒果和加工過芒果冰淇淋料的區別,新鮮的吃起來比較溫和。

Mango gelato, $100 NT. Celebrate the beginning of mango season with Cosi O Cosi’s spot-on mango gelato! Light, refreshing, and not heavily sweetened, perfectly showcasing the lush natural flavour of local, seasonal mangoes. You can really taste the difference between fresh mangoes and factory-processed mango “mix” – the flavour is much lighter and more subtle.

芭樂冰淇淋,$100NT。芭樂冰淇淋的味道蠻濃縮的,很香,很好吃,從桌子對面還可以聞得到它甜甜的香氣。這個冰淇淋偏甜,味道比芒果口味重一些。

Guava gelato, $100 NT. This is a super-rich guava gelato! Just like the fresh fruits themselves, this guava gelato has a strong fruity aroma that you can smell from the other side of the table. It’s quite sweet, stronger-tasting and heavier than the mango gelato.

開心果冰淇淋,$150 NT。開心果冰淇淋,在台比較難得,而且它通常是菜單上最貴的冰淇淋,由於進口開心果的成本很高。因為賣開心果冰淇淋的店這麼少,所以競爭少,結果許多店能夠賣很淡的,不太地道的開心果冰淇淋。正宗的開心果冰淇淋超級濃郁,帶有現磨開心果本身的豆香,味道複雜、深沉、又香又甜。從標示牌上的logo來看,Cosi O Cosi的開心果冰淇淋是以PreGel原料做的,不是新鮮開心果做的,但這一點我可以原諒,因為新鮮開心果冰淇淋不好做,成本又超貴。PreGel的開心果冰淇淋料蠻有名,品質、味道都不錯,吃起來夠香,可以滿足愛吃開心果的人。它甜中帶鹹,讓它更香,更美味,口感也很綿密,總之還不錯。

Pistachio gelato, $150 NT. Pistachio Gelato is a rarity in Taiwan, and it’s almost always the most expensive option on the menu due to the high cost of imported pistachios. With little competition, many ice cream makers get away with producing bland impostors of the real thing. Authentic pistachio gelato is super complex and rich, almost savory with the beany flavour of fresh pistachios. Judging by the logo on the label, Cosi O Cosi’s pistachio gelato is made with PreGel mix, not fresh pistachios, but this can be forgiven due to the difficulty and high cost of production. PreGel is known for their high-quality pistachio mix, which is respectably rich and satisfying for those with a craving. It’s got a bit of a salty flavour augmenting the sweetness, which I liked. The texture is nice and creamy. Overall, it’s pretty good.

Cosi O Cosi提供的用餐區大概有十幾個座位,可以在裝潢很漂亮的義大利風格中休息一下享用冰淇淋。我和朋友在這花了一個下午的時間一邊吃一邊跟熱情的老闆和人員聊天,真舒服。Cosi O Cosi的冰淇淋好吃,環境又好看又方便,我希望將來可以多吃得到老闆白手作的美味新鮮水果冰淇淋!

Cosi O Cosi has plenty of seats, so you can relax and enjoy your gelato in the fun, Italian-inspired art-deco surroundings. I enjoyed a leisurely afternoon here eating ice cream with my friends and chatting with the boss and the friendly staff. Cosi O Cosi’s gelato is well-made and the surroundings are convenient and attractive – I hope to see more of their lovely made-from-scratch gelatos available here in the future!
