我不知道怎麼了,我今年春天準備冰淇淋店名單的時候完全錯過了「黃檸檬 」,只有在幾個禮拜前朋友提出一起去品嘗他們得過獎的義式霜淇淋以後才知道它的存在。我們本來要去位於大直捷運站附近的總店,但後來發現了信義區的新光三越就有分店,不用跑那麼遠,所以就去了信義分店了。

Somehow I missed Yellow Lemon when I was compiling my ice cream hit list earlier this year – I only heard of it when a friend suggested we go there to check out their award-winning soft-serve gelato a few weeks ago. We originally planned to go to the main location in Dazhi, but it turns out they have a branch at the Shinkong Mitsukoshi in Xinyi, so we went to that one instead.

黃檸檬是2009年創立合資企業「 安琪餐飲集團」的一小部分。一對餐客夫妻在上海豪華飯店愛上了義大利國際廚師Giorgio Papplardo的精緻料理以後,向廚師提出合作企劃,就來台創立了台北市的「Osteria by Angie 」義大利餐廳,再繼續擴大生意,多加了幾家分店、一家披薩店、一個外燴服務公司、一個烹飪學院以及「黃檸檬 」。

Yellow Lemon Dessert Bar is just one minor division of Angie’s F&B Group, a joint venture launched in 2009 by Italian chef Giorgio Papplardo and a food-loving entrepreneur couple who fell in love with his cooking at a posh hotel in Shanghai. They opened the restaurant Osteria by Angie  in Taipei and gradually expanded the business to include multiple branches, a pizza restaurant, a catering business, a cooking school, and Yellow Lemon.

「黃檸檬 」的主題是「甜點藝術品」。只有在大直的總店才可以很充分地體驗到以甜點店為藝廊的經驗,信義區供應的東西比較少,基本上就是冰淇淋店而已,我改天一定要跑到大直看看廚師的甜食傑作,像以上使用甜食畫的抽象畫那樣!

Yellow Lemon’s concept is “dessert as art”. The main location in Dazhi has much more variety – the Xinyi location is really just a simple ice cream stand. I’ll have to go to the Dazhi location to get the full experience, like the crazy abstract dessert “painting” pictured above!

信義分店雖然是小冰淇淋專賣店,但這不見得意味著簡單,公司的「甜點為藝術品」哲學在這裡也是一樣,就是規模沒有總店的那麼大。冰淇淋吧供應了許多好玩的配料來造出美味的霜淇淋藝術品!

The Xinyi location is just an ice cream stand, but maybe not a simple ice cream stand – the “dessert as art” concept carries over here, too, but on a smaller scale. The bar stocks a ton of fun toppings to create soft-serve ice cream masterpieces.

2015-10-27 07.32.50 「黃檸檬」的霜淇淋只有兩款口味,好像是都是固定的,不常更換,所以甜品的多元化是配料帶來的而不是冰淇淋本身帶來的。價位如下:單點「Easy Going 精選義式冰淇淋」杯裝或甜筒裝的霜淇淋,不加配料,NT$100。 點「Special 自主創意口味」可自選兩種配料跟一種甜醬,NT$150。點菜單上的「Experience 主廚神秘驚喜組合」包括多種配料,NT$180。

The shop’s two ice cream flavours apparently don’t change regularly – instead of varying ice cream flavours, you vary toppings. A simple “Easy Going” (ice cream in a cone or cup, no toppings) is a modest NT$100; the “Special” (add a sauce + two toppings) is NT$150, and the “Experience” (premium topping combinations, see menu above) is NT$180.  2015-10-26 23.03.56

信義分店的兩款口味為草莓及「White Passion」。「White Passion」就是冰淇淋師Andrea Bonaffini所創造的,在國際義式冰淇淋大賽得過「客人選擇獎」的招牌檸檬口味。我本來想要點一個綜合的冰淇淋來嘗嘗看兩款口味,但草莓已賣完了,所以唯一吃得到的是「White Passion」。

The two flavours are strawberry and “White Passion”, chef Andrea Bonaffini’s signature flavour – a mild lemon gelato that won a special mention and people’s choice award in the Gelato World Tour.We would have ordered a mixed cone to try both flavours, but strawberry was sold out, so we only got to try White Passion.

因為配料很多,所以他們會把冰淇淋蛋捲擺在紙盤上。第一個點的是「Taro Rocher 芋頭與金沙」。首先塗上一塊甜甜的芋泥……

To accommodate the crazy amount of toppings, they serve the ice cream cone on a paper plate. First up, the Taro Rocher. It starts with a smear of sweet taro paste…

……最後放一塊金沙巧克力,餓著肚子欣賞冰淇淋的樣子時可以把巧克力當小吃。好了,大家來觀看一下藝術家的「Taro Rocher 芋頭與金沙」,NT$180。

冰淇淋藝術感外表欣賞好了以後終於可以吃,漂漂亮亮的它到底吃起來怎麼樣呢? ……說實話我感覺白巧克力吃起來甜到有點膩口,但朋友都覺得吃起來很清淡。口感很棒,軟到剛剛好,滑順綿密,不太油也不太稀。

So after all that, how is the actual ice cream? …to be honest, I found the white chocolate flavour a little cloying. My two friends, on the other hand, both found it very light. The texture was nice, though – perfectly smooth and balanced, neither too fatty or too watery.

另外點了一個「Special 自主創意口味」,NT$150,可以自選兩種配料加一款甜醬。我們抗拒不住再點一份焦糖榛果,還有焦糖千層酥

We also ordered a NT$150 “Special”, with two toppings and one sauce of our choice. We chose those gorgeous caramelized hazelnuts again, plus some caramelized puff pastry.

抹茶甜醬看起來濃郁好吃,來吃吃看吧。

The matcha sauce looked interesting, so we gave that a try, too.

抹茶甜醬帶來微苦的香味。最美味的就是榛果,外層的焦糖脆脆甜甜,裡面的堅果肉烘培到剛剛好,又香又濃。甜筒也很好吃,我先吃完了榛果跟甜筒就覺得很滿足,之後對冰淇淋的部分有一點失去了興趣,吃了幾口就夠了,剩下的在紙盤上慢慢融化了。

The matcha sauce gave a nice touch of bitterness. The best part was the hazelnuts, which were toasted to fragrant perfection and coated in a crispy layer of caramelized sugar. I really liked the cone, too. Once I’d eaten the cone and the nuts, I kind of lost interest in the ice cream and only ate a few bites. The rest melted away on my plate.

那麼,結論呢? 「黃檸檬」的霜淇淋好吃是好吃,但如果是我,我不會授給它獎。可能就是個人品味的問題,我就是不太想吃大如吉娃娃狗的白巧克力口味冰淇淋蛋捲。但我還是要承認,CP值不錯,雖然NT$150-180不算便宜,但份量足夠給兩個人分享,甚至我們三位超愛冰淇淋的愛吃鬼也沒辦法吃完兩份這麼大的冰淇淋。

The verdict? The ice cream is ok, but I wouldn’t have given it an award. Maybe it’s just a matter of taste, though – I’m just not interested in eating a chihuahua-sized pile of white chocolate flavoured cream. They do get points for value, however – although the NT$150-180 price tag seems expensive, each cone is big enough for two people to share. Even three hungry ice cream fans couldn’t finish these two monster cones.

雖然我覺得他們的冰淇淋就還好,沒有很特別,但「黃檸檬」的甜點手藝確實值得授予獎牌! 他們的糕點與餅乾做得很棒,真是藝術品,精美到捨不得吃!

Yellow Lemon does deserve an award for their incredible handiwork, though – their cookies and cakes are true works of art. Almost too gorgeous to eat!
